Naming Standards
What's our mechanical drawing number convention?
Our drawing number format is [DISCIPLINE][SHEET TYPE]-[DESIGNATION]. Example: MH2-1A which expands to MH2-1A - LEVEL 1 PARTIAL DUCTWORK PLAN. DISCIPLINE: M = Mechanical General, MH = Ductwork, MP = Hydraulic Piping, MR = Refrigerant Piping, SC = Structural Coordination. SHEET TYPE immediately follows discipline: 0 = General Information, 1 = Overall Floorplans, 2 = Partial Floorplans, 3 = Enlarged Floorplans, 4 = ISO/Section/Riser. DESIGNATION: Represents the floor level and area (e.g., 1A, 2B, 3). See Drawing Number Convention standard.

What are the mechanical discipline codes?
M = Mechanical General, MH = Ductwork, MP = Hydraulic Piping, MR = Refrigerant Piping, SC = Structural Coordination. These codes form the first part of your drawing number.

What does the designation in a drawing number represent?
The designation comes after the discipline and sheet type, and represents the floor level and area of a building (e.g., 1A, 1C, 2B, 3A). It includes the level number followed by the area letter. Example: MH2-1C means Ductwork, Partial Floorplan, Level 1 Area C.
Naming Standards
What are the mechanical sheet types?
Sheet types go right after the discipline code in your drawing number. Types are: 0 = General Information, 1 = Overall Floorplans, 2 = Partial Floorplans, 3 = Enlarged Floorplans, 4 = ISO/Section/Riser. Example: MH2-1A means Ductwork (MH), Partial Floorplan (2), Level 1 Area A (1A).
Scales
What scale should floor plans be?
Typical floor plan scale: 1/8 inch = 1 foot. Large plan areas: 1/16 inch = 1 foot. Detail plans: 1/4 inch = 1 foot. Always indicate scale on sheet. See Drawing Scale Standards.

How do I set up scope boxes when starting a new project?
When creating a new project, Revit inserts 5 scope boxes by default. In a working floor plan you should see 1 scope box named 'overall' and 4 smaller ones named 'area a', 'area b', 'area c', and 'area d'. Select the 'overall' scope box and drag it to the center of the building, then resize it so the entire building fits within the dashed boundary line.
Sheet Setup
How do I know where to place scope boxes?
Open a mechanical overall contract drawing and check if a key plan was released. If the contract drawings include a key plan, place each scope box to match the key plan areas, ensuring scope boxes overlap slightly - at least 1 column line should fall within the overlap. If there is no key plan, get with the PM to determine placement.
Sheet Setup
How much should scope boxes overlap each other?
Scope boxes should overlap each other slightly. A good rule of thumb is to ensure at least 1 column line falls within the overlap area between adjacent scope boxes.
Sheet Setup
What if I need more scope boxes than the default 5?
Copy and paste additional scope boxes as needed to match the number of areas shown in the key plan. Follow the correct naming format when naming any new scope boxes.
Sheet Setup
How do I create a new sheet in Revit?
In the ribbon bar, go to View → Sheet → FAI Template. A default pop-up will appear. Go to the properties and change the title block to the correct customer before proceeding.
Sheet Setup
How do I select the correct title block for a sheet?
When creating a new sheet via View → Sheet → FAI Template, a default pop-up will open. In the properties panel of that pop-up, change the title block to match the correct customer for the project.
Sheet Setup
How do I set up the QR code on the title block?
Find the QR code area on the title block and double-click the title block to edit it. Follow these steps: 1) Go to F-drive, find Box (download if needed), go to Projects, find the project, then Active Docs → Shops. Right-click inside the folder and copy the link. 2) In a browser, go to QR.io and log in (get with Ryan if you need an account). Select 'Website URL', paste the link, click Continue twice, rename the QR code to the project name, and download as PNG. 3) Drag the PNG into Revit, place it in the blank space of the title block, change the width to 2 inches, and align it to the text box within the title block.
Sheet Setup
How do I get access to QR.io?
Get with Ryan if you do not have a QR.io account. You will need it to generate QR codes for project title blocks.
Sheet Setup
What size should the QR code be on the title block?
The QR code should be set to a width of 2 inches. After placing it in the blank space of the title block, align it to the text box within the title block.
Sheet Setup
How do I finish setting up the title block default pop-up?
After completing the QR code steps, finish the remaining fields in the default pop-up on the title block. When done, select the pop-up, go to properties, and check the 'Complete' checkbox.
Sheet Setup
Where can I find instructions for setting up a key plan?
Step-by-step instructions for setting up a key plan are located at: F:\Resources\Company Process\01-Master Copy\KEYPLAN SETUP.pdf
Sheet Setup
How do I turn on the key plan for a sheet?
After a sheet is created, renamed, and renumbered, select the title block, go to properties, and turn on the key plan. Enable any relevant areas as needed. Overall sheets should show the full key plan with no grayed areas. Partial sheets should have grayed areas to indicate the specific area covered.
Sheet Setup
What is the difference between how overall and partial sheets display the key plan?
Overall sheets display the full key plan with no grayed areas. Partial sheets display the key plan with grayed areas to indicate which specific area the sheet covers.
Sheet Setup
How do I move sheets to the correct discipline in the Project Browser?
Once all sheets are made, move each sheet to the correct discipline folder. This can be done in the Properties tab.
Views
How do I create a new floor plan view in Revit?
Go to View → Plan Views, then select the type of floor plan you need. In the New Floor Plan pop-up, uncheck 'Do not duplicate existing views', select the level you want to create a view for, and click OK. Then apply the overall scope box, apply the view template, and fix the view range if needed. Rename the view in ALL CAPS.
Views
How do I verify and set up views that were already created with scope boxes?
Find the Detailing views in the Project Browser and navigate to the area of scope. Expand the views and verify that the scope box assigned to each view is correct. Rename the view title if needed, using ALL CAPS.
Views
How do I create dependent views for partial sheets?
After creating the main floor plan view, create dependent views for any partial areas needed. Rename each dependent view and apply the appropriate scope box as indicated in the key plan.
Views
How do I place views onto a sheet?
Drag the view from the Project Browser onto the sheet. Each sheet should have both an RCP view and a floor plan view. Place the RCP view first and renumber its title to 'X', then turn the title off in properties. Next, find the corresponding floor plan view, hover over the RCP view until you see a blue 'T', then place the floor plan view. Resize the title line to match the length of the title text, then drag both views together to the bottom-right corner of the sheet.
Views
What order should I place views on a sheet?
Place the RCP view first, renumber its title to 'X', and turn the title off in properties. Then place the corresponding floor plan view by hovering over the RCP view until you see a blue 'T'. After placing both views, drag them together to the bottom-right corner of the sheet.
Views
How should view names be formatted in Revit?
All view names should be written in ALL CAPS.

How do I request services for United Mechanical?
You will use a website called freedcamp.com, its like Wrike but for our services design team. You will look for the job name and add a new task, the task should be titled "Add *blank* services" blank should be replaced with whatever item you are requesting. United Mechanical ductwork, is labeled "United Mechanical Ductwork Service" make sure that is in the message to the team, and the abbreviated names for the ducts you will need, ie EA, RA, OA.
